Audio WAN Bandwidth Requirements

These figures are to be used as a guide only. Remember that it will be a very rare scenario for every user in your environment to be utilising the phone at exactly the same time.

Enter the number of concurrent phone calls in your office:

Maximum Required *Typically Expected **
S4B-to-S4B or PC-to-PC call0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps
S4B-to-PSTN or external call0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps

* Maximum Required – This is the maximum value the amount of users entered could possibly take up. The values display per stream usage (I.e for 1 user, you would need at least 0.06Mbps download and 0.06Mbps
upload).

** Typically Expected – This is the typical value for a call. This data has been calculated using data from 2 million real-life scenario calls. The values are smaller because Skype for Business only sends voice when the user
is speaking and both parties in a call do not speak at the same time.

typically expected values are for the audio payload only.

Video WAN Bandwidth Requirements

These figures are to be used as a guide only. Remember that it will be a very rare scenario for every user in your environment to be utilising the video functionality at exactly the same time.

Enter the number of concurrent video calls in your office:

Maximum Required *Typically Expected **
CIF (15fps, 352x288px)0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps
VGA (25fps, 640x480px)0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps
HD (30fps, 1280x720px)0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps

* Maximum Required – This is the maximum value the amount of users entered could possibly take up. The values display per stream usage.

** Typically Expected – This is the typical value for a call. This data has been calculated using data from 2 million real-life scenarios. The values are smaller because Skype for Business only sends voice when the user is speaking and both parties in a call do not speak at the same time.

If you want to get techy, the maximum required includes the IP Header and any RTCP that may be required. The typically expected values are for the video payload only.

Conferencing WAN Bandwidth Requirements

These figures are to be used as a guide only.

Enter the number of concurrent conferences in your office:

Maximum Required *Typically Expected **
Web Conferencing0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps
Desktop Sharing / Application Sharing0.00 Mbps0.00 Mbps

* Maximum Required – This is the maximum value the amount of users entered could possibly take up. The values display per stream usage.

** Typically Expected – This is the typical value for a Conferencing session. If a user is sharing their desktop and then does not move the mouse, no packets will be sent.

Why is the value for Desktop Sharing / Application sharing so high? Its that high because if a user has 9 screens plugged into their PC, Skype for Business will allow you to share all of the them. For most users with 1 or 2 screens, this figure will be a lot lower.
